Theatre Tickets For London

Buying London Theatre Tickets at the theatre at the last minute?

I wanted to buy London theatre tickets for me and my friends for my 18th Birthday but they are like £60!!!

Someone told me that if I wait until a couple of weeks before the date and go to the theatre and buy them then they will be like £15! Is this true?

Yes, the big West End shows can get pricey, but most of them will release tickets to discounted sellers in order to fill their theatres. Otherwise, the audience would be tiny and could negatively affect the performance.

Here’s some suggestions:

1. Don’t go to one of the big theatres. If you want an awesome show, and a guaranteed great seat, try the Donmar Warehouse www.donmarwarehouse.co.uk for an amazing play. I’ve never been disappointed by their shows, and their tickets have always been reasonably priced.

2. Buy a TimeOut Magazine the week you want to go see a show. Sometimes they have discounts, but at the very least you can see what’s playing, even in the Fringe (which is sometimes better than the big stuff) and compare ticket prices.

3. The day you want to see a show, go to the TKTS booth to buy your tickets. Sixty quid a pop is a bit much, so go there the day of shows, see what is playing, and buy your tickets for around half price. The seat placement can be really good if you’re early or just lucky. Once I was in the second row.

Also, you might want to check out the website, www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk for play reviews, etc. There’s also a link to the TKTS page from there, I believe.

Have fun, and Happy Birthday!
