The Jersey Boys On Broadway
I need help with my singing.?
I have a decent voice, people say I’m pretty good, but I want to be amazing.
1. most people are born with a good singing voice (correct?) so is it possible to become a good singer, if you aren’t “born with it”
2. what are some good excercises I can do without a teacher.
I was talking to John Lloyd Young from the Jersey Boys on broadway, & he said a good one is holding you tongue while you sing to warm up.
Never heard of holding your tongue but…
1. People are born with some equipment, some of their ability comes from the tone of their parents’ voice when they were babies, especially the mother. This is just a fact of language and why it’s important to have hearing tests for infants. But, anyone can improve what they were born with, even naturally talented singers have to study, practice, and work to improve range, tone, and prevent injury.
2. Breathing properly; inhale and exhale from the diaphragm (muscle below the ribs, blow out hard and give one last push, you’ll feel it). You need to control the airflow with this muscle. Open your throat, when you yawn, your throat is open. Practice yawning while watching yourself in a mirror and learn to keep an open throat. Then, with a pitch pipe or piano, practice the vowels, A E I O U up AND down the scales, jump octaves and fall back down. This improves your range. Combined with proper breathing you will improve your range and tone.
Record yourself before you start and again after several weeks. You will see improvement quickly. Then have some fun and sing along to your favorite artists, this will help you learn different vocal techniques.
