Security…how important?

Security has been and continues to be one of the most important issues to homeowners and tenants, and as a result to any company supplying them. On the flip side there has been very little attention given to offering a solution for easy escape in the event of a fire. Scary stuff says Gerald of Manchester Locksmiths.

Surely this should be as high on our agendas as security – if not higher? Sometime conversations on this topic concentrate on the frequency of burglaries or fires as to which poses the higher risk, however, it’s not just about such an event taking place, it’s also about the potential consequences of such an event happening.

The British Crime Survey for 2009/10 shows that there were 659,000 reported domestic burglaries but the 2009/10 Fire Statistics from the Department of Communities and Local Government show that there were 39,000 accidental fires in UK dwellings with 328 fatalities and a further 9,200 non fatal casualties. Major statistics says Ralph of Manchester Locksmiths.

Despite this frightening statistic, most of the window and door products specified and installed are done on the basis of security over and above easy and rapid escape.  Whether this is because the fear of crime is sexier than fire safety, or because people focus on the frequency of the event more than the consequences of it, or perhaps because the police simply have a louder voice than the fire services, we don’t know. Martin agrees of Manchester Locksmiths.

The question I would ask is whether the two issues have to be mutually exclusive. This clearly puts the mantle quite firmly at the door of the industryís suppliers.
