Seven Brides For Seven Brothers Tickets- Seattle Run Starts
Seattle welcomed Seven Brides for Seven Brothers to the 5th Avenue Theater on December 3. The musical will continue playing there through December 28 and features many of the same creative and cast that worked with the production at the Paper Mill Playhouse. Choreographer Patti Colombo also choreographed the production at the Paper Mill. Another Paper Mill veteran of the show is Edward Watts, who stars in the lead role of Adam. He played the same role at the Paper Mill in 2007. His other musical endeavors include The Selfish Giant, The New Yorkers, The Girl in the Frame, Fifty Million Freshmen and The Tragic and Horrible Life of the Singing Nun. He has also been seen on television in episodes of The Sopranos.
Appearing with Watts will be Laura Griffith as his new wife Milly. Griffith was raised in Sothern California and had already won the Spotlight Award at the Los Angeles Music Center/Dorothy Chandler Pavilion by the time she was 18. She went on to further her opera skills when she appeared in La Boheme and Madame Butterfly at the Aspen Music Festival. Like all aspiring stage actors, Griffith knew her true calling was in New York City, so she enrolled at Columbia University. She has since made impacts on many Broadway shows like Sweet Smell of Success, The Light in the Piazza and, more recently, South Pacific. She also was in the national tour of The Light in the Piazza as well as in regional theater in shows like Les Miserables, The Rocky Horror Show, Oklahoma!, West Side Story and A Little Night Music.
Watts and Griffith will be joined by Luke Longacre as Benjamin, Demian Boergadine as Caleb, Karl Warden as Daniel, Kyle Patrick Vaughn as Ephraim, Wes Hart as Frank and Gideon. The other six brides are played by Shanna Marie Palmer, Amanda Paulson, Meaghan Goy, Brittany Jamieson, Sarah Christine Parish and Maya RS Perkins. The book for the show was written by Lawrence Kasha and Davis S. Landay. The music was by Gene de Paul with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. Allison Narver will direct the show with Valerie Gebert as the musical director.
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers tells the story of seven brothers living in the backwoods of Oregon around the late 1800s. The oldest brother is Adam and he meets and falls in love with Milly when he goes to town. They marry, but Milly has her hands more than full when she returns to a house filled with Adam’s six uncouth younger brothers. Milly injects her feminine touch to the household, teaching all of them manners and social niceties like how to dance. After they are read the story of the Romans kidnapping the Sabine women, Adams brother get an idea of their own, and go to town to kidnap brides for themselves. On the way back, they cause an avalanche to keep the girl’s families at bay until spring. Milly banishes the boys to the barn after learning of the deed and lives in the house with the women all winter.
