What broadway musical is best to see this summer?
My best friend and I are Broadway nerds. So you can imagine our excitement when her mom said she will be planning a trip to the city this summer to see a show! WOOHOO! i love that women. But anyway, we need some help picking a musical. Her are the details: there will be 4 teenage girls. 2 of which are nerds of broadway, the other two will see any musical. a couple parents who will PROBABLY see anything. and 1 little sister who is pretty picky. we have gotten rid of a few. we arnt going to see anything like green day or rock of ages. we want classic broadway style music! we saw billy elliot and wicked (BE is the most amazing thing ever created, just saying), nothing too inapropriate, probably not west side, or south pacifie, just nothing too heavy. ya know? so suggestions and why would be great! thanks guys!
I think the best show on Broadway right now is Next to Normal, (it also seems to do well with most teenagers despite the adult subject matter) but if there are younger members of your party that might be a little much – though there’s nothing in that profanity wise that isn’t in Billy Elliot – actually there’s less profanity in Next to Normal than there was in Billy Elliot. If you’ve got anyone under 12 I might not go for it though.
Mary Poppins is actually quite good, I’m not always a fan of disney shows onstage but it was fun for everyone in the group I took, not too childish, and had amazing effects.
In the Heights – I went into it thinking I was going to hate it because I had heard that they rap in it – I was blown away. Despite the different music used sometimes it is 100% super traditional as far as musicals go – very fun – not inappropriate – always full of kids and adults. I had a great time.
