Off Off Broadway
14, and trying to get onto Broadway or off-Broadway in the future?
I’m 14, and have always dreamed of being in an broadway musical. I just finished playing Belle in my school’s production of Beauty and the Beast, and I actually had people come up to me and ask if I was on broadway! I’m in my school’s chorus, and I’d say that I’m a fair dancer. I have very few connections, but I’m really looking for some tipsfor getting onto the Broadway stage. What do I need to do? Who should I contact? Help! I’m totally lost!
Wow! That sounds impressive.
Here are some steps I would take:
1. Where do you live? If you live in the NY area, that’s great! It will be of a big help to you, if you don’t, you will need to work extra hard!
2. Do you have a voice teacher, acting teacher, dance teacher? All of these things are crucial!
3. Do you have an agent? If not, you need to get one! Ask theater-involved adults around you if they know of an agent call soon where you live. At these, you will sing or do a monologue in front of people from agencies. If they like you, they will call you.
4. Post videos of yourself in plays, singing, or acting on youtube. This sounds a bit weird but you never know! Some people have hit it big using that!
5. Always have a song or monologue memorized just in case.
6. Have an impressive resume. Do shows at a variety of places. Audition youth theater, community theater, and for equity (professional) shows in your area, take classes, get some books or go online to find theater terms so you seem more professional. Also, make a professional resume and get a head shot done, yes they have professional places to do that. You can find out how to make a resume online.
7. Tell people that this is what you want. Especially people who seem creative. You never know what they can get you.
8. Constantly check playbill.com for for lists about open calls and audition as much as you can.
