London Theatre Map
how far is earls court from central london?
i know i need to get a map;havent a clue about geography of london;spotted a hotel i can stay in earls court when i go for a break next friday and saturday ,wondering if its near theatres as i want to see a show also is it near any good markets.
In terms of distance, it’s not far, maybe three miles. Earls Court is a cheap and bustling area to stay in – good choice!
Maps: go to the London Transport website (I’ve listed the map page below) but you can pick up their free maps all over the place in London (tube stations etc).
Theatres: there aren’t any theatres in Earls Court itself. The nearest one is the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith (two stops west on the District and Piccadilly line tubes from EC, coloured green and dark blue, respectively).
The vast majority of theatres are in the area of Shaftesbury Avenue-Leicester Square area – take the tube to Leicester Square itself, seven stops east from EC on the Piccadilly line (dark blue on the tube map).
See below for a link to the Official London Theatre Guide’s map showing all the theatres in central London with the nearest tube stations.
Incidentally there always used to be a discount ticket booth for shows in Leicester Square itself – a bit hit and miss for what’s available, but you could save yourself a bundle.
Markets: it depends what you’re after, but if it’s antiques Portobello Road is not far from Earls Court and it’s open on Saturdays – two stops up the District line (green on map) to Notting Hill Gate and follow the crowds.
There are tons of others, depending on how far you want to go – the ones I always recommend are Covent Garden (Covent Garden tube, one stop on beyond Leicester Square, or a short walk) and Camden Lock (Camden Town tube, on the (black) Northern line), both big and buzzy.
The best place to look is the London Markets website as it tells you all you need to know – see the link below.
Sorry for rambling, and have a great time.
