If your desire is to see a Broadway show and you are open to what you’ll see then you can try the TKTS booth in Times Square (Under the red stairs). If you want to see a particular show, it is best to buy them ahead of time. I doubt that TKTS would have Wicked tickets.

A little bit downtown from Times Square is a lot of shopping like H&M, Macy’s and Manhattan Mall. That is all around 34th Street. Right by the Empire State Building, by the way. Very trendy shopping can be found further downtown in Greenwich Village and Soho and such, but I don’t know too much about particulars.

To eat, I would suggest that you step away from Times Square as things tend to be overpriced and mediocre. Go two blocks west to Ninth Ave where there is a plethora of restaurants where the locals eat. I would recommend Ralph’s on 56th street for Italian food. Another good choice and a little unusual is called Plataforma and is on 49th Street between 8th and 9th Ave. It is a Brazilian style rodizio or barbecue place. These two might be a little costly, but there are dozens of more budget friendly places there.

You should have Pizza in New York, we are famous for it. I recommend Totonno’s on Second Ave or Lombardi’s on Spring Street in Little Italy. If you walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, turn right and double back along the south side to find Grimaldi’s, possibly the best of the lot.

Another iconic food is delicatessen. I recommend Katz’s or Second Ave Deli.

Hot Dogs? Try a Papaya place like Gray’s in Greenwich Village on Sixth Ave, but I think that Papaya King on 86th street and Third Ave is better. It’s about a ten minute walk from the Metropolitan Museum.

ROCK OF AGES at Broadway on Broadway 2009!
