Free Broadway Show Tickets
Do I have to get the rights to do this?
I’m in charge of putting a play on for the community center here but instead of a play I wanted to do a Broadway showcase and in it people will perform whatever scene from what ever play they want. I have a lot of people signed up who want to do scenes and songs from different shows even some where the rights aren’t available for yet like Spring Awakening and Legally Blonde. But do I have to get the rights from every play. Keep in mind it’s something we are selling tickets for but it’s free to everyone.
IF it is a public performance, free or not, you cannot do any copyrighted material without permission. The songs may be different, if the center pays BMI fees or if there is no admission. But scenes from plays and musicals are different. You must have the rights.
