Audition songs for a teen mezzo soprano(no Chicago please!)?
I’m auditioning for Northeast School of the Arts and I need a good audition song from a musical theatre work and monologue from a PUBLISHED play.
From NESA:
Some songs and monologues have been overdone, and we would rather you not do them.
Songs: anything from Chicago, “On My Own” from Les Miserables, and “Think of Me” from Phantom of the Opera
Monologues: Joan’s monologue from St. Joan by Shaw, “Look, Peter, the sky!” from The Diary of Anne Frank, “Mr. Cornell…” from Neil Simon’s Star-Spangled Girl.
For songs.. you can really do anything.
My current favorite song is “Come to Your Senses” from Tick, Tick…BOOM!
It’s a tough song, but if you can do it, then I say go for it!
An easier song is “I Will Be Loved Tonight” from I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
I can send you the sheet music for those two songs if you want.
Also, The Last 5 Years, has a LOT of great female solos! (A Part of That, Summer in Ohio, Climbing Uphill, and, my favorite, I Can Do Better Than That.)
For monologues, there’s this really good show about AIDS called Quilt, and it has AMAZING monologues in it!
Also, you can look at the shows Dearly Departed or Greater Tuna for good comedic ones!
