Arena Verona Opera
Verona day trip from Venice – opera?
I’m going to Venice in July and was considering the possibility of going to Verona one night to see Aida at the arena. Problem is we’d have to go back to Venice the same night… if the opera starts at about 9, and goes on for what, 2 1/2 hrs? I’m pretty sure trains won’t run that late, does anyone know how this could work?
I live about an hour south of Verona and have the choice of either driving or staying overnight in Verona when going to an event at l’Arena. The trains aren’t really organized for this type of excursion and the scheduled APT bus runs in the morning to Venice from Riva del Garda through Verona and back from Venice in the evening, but there isn’t a public service that meets your needs. The opera starts at 9:15 pm and will end close to midnight – too late for the trains unless you want to wait until 4:40 am for the first morning train.
If you’re staying in Venice, you might be able to get an organized tour that includes a bus and tickets on the stone seats in the colosseum. If I get to Venice this weekend, I can check for you, but I don’t know of anything you can book on the internet. There are places at the train station, in Piazzale Roma, or on the Lido island where you could book this kind of thing if it exists. You could also try the information office in Piazza San Marco. If you’re facing the Correr Museum, the information office is in the corner to the left of the piazza.
You’ll want to be in Venice the evening of the 18th if you’re there then – it’s the Il Redentore festival with very good fireworks over the lagoon.
